Friends & Neighbors

Purpose

As part of our mission to build community, NABB’s Friends and Neighbors committee and subgroups provide the opportunity for NABB members to meet and gather around shared personal interests and/or enjoy fun activities together.

What We Do

The following Friends & Neighbors groups are open to all NABB members. They are self-sustaining chaired and run by volunteers, not by the NABB office, board, or executive committee. Members are welcome to propose and self-organize new activity groups at any time.

Book Groups

The Mystery Book Group meets most first Tuesdays of each month at 2pm, currently via Zoom. The group takes turns choosing books to read, trying to pick books available at the BPL or in paperback. If you are interested, please email Sheri Olans at mysterybook@nabbonline.org.

The Fiction and Non Fiction Group meets on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 pm via Zoom. The group aims to choose books that are available through the BPL system. If interested, please email Pam Colwell at ficandnonficbook@nabbonline.org.

Bridge Group

This weekly group meets Tuesday mornings at 10 AM, at One Charles Condominiums. This group of women and men range from the Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, to the Advanced Levels. For further information, please contact Hal Berman or Ellen Clarke at bridgeweekly@nabbonline.org. If interested in starting a beginners’ group, please contact Hal or Ellen, who will help you get started.

Mahjong

This is a group of seasoned Mahjong players who try to play weekly. We are looking to have other seasoned players join us. If you are new to Mahjong, we will try to get you together with other beginners to form a new group. For more information, please contact Linda Jacobsen at mahjong@nabbonline.org.

Men’s Discussion Group

This group of working, semi-working and retired men with diverse backgrounds meets for lunch and discussion on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at noon. Contact Grant Schaumburg at mensgroup@nabbonline.org for more information.

Mom’s Group

This group has been revived for Moms in the Back Bay to meet and connect. We are dedicated to providing information about local child-friendly activities and experiences. We can keep each other up to date as our museums, libraries, and other local resources begin to safely open. We will start to host walks on the Esplanade, coffee get-togethers, play-dates and other in person activities when it is safe to do so. Our goal is to offer support and be a resource for local Moms.

For more information on joining, please send an email to: info@nabbonline.org and the group will contact you.

Special Events

The Special Events Committee plans a variety of events for NABB members. The events take place bi-monthly and include tours of area museums, gardens, and other local and historic venues. Members also plan other cultural, musical, and theatrical events as well as presentations by local authors.

Announcements of events appear in the NABB Friday enews, the monthly bulletin, the NABB Facebook and Instagram pages and the NABB website where you can register online.

To suggest an event or join the committee, please contact Gail Laffer, Julie Mathison or Lara Shukova at specialevents@nabbonline.org.
