Current Public Comment Periods for Back Bay Developments

The Stanhope Hotel amidst the city skyline

There are two BPDA comment periods currently open with the City for developments in the Back Bay:

Squares & Streets

Comment Period End Date: January 28, 2024

According to the BPDA website: “The BPDA’s Zoning Reform team is drafting a zoning amendment that will create new regulations for Squares + Streets districts to be adopted into the Boston Zoning Code. The zoning amendment will update the City’s “base code” which is a portion of the code that is applicable citywide – not just specific neighborhoods. This means that each Squares + Streets district will eventually be governed by regulations defined in this citywide part of the code. These new districts will permit a mix of building uses and heights, create housing growth opportunities, and encourage active streets.”

Added all sorts of wrong

There is a public comment period that is open until January 28th.

Stanhope Hotel

Comment Period End Date: February 12, 2024

The BPDA website provides the following explanation on the Notice of Project Change: “Stanhope Hotel Holdings, LLC (the “Proponent”) filed a Notice of Project Change (“NPC”) with the Boston Planning and Development Agency (the “BPDA”) on December 27, 2023. The Proponent requests to slightly increase the floor area within the Project building without altering its exterior dimensions. The proposed change would allow the Proponent to optimize the hotel program while keeping the building’s height, width, depth, and overall massing the same.”
