NABB Block Captain Winter Advisories

As we approach winter months ahead, we have a few important requests and reminders for all residents:
Property Owners: Please inspect your outdoor garbage barrels for holes or damaged, unlocked lids to prevent rodent access. If your building lacks outdoor garbage barrels or an enclosed garbage area, consider updating your garbage practices by positioning barrels directly against your building or in a designated area.
Renters: Place your garbage directly behind your residence in the Public Alley, near the curb edge, during pick-up hours. Do not place garbage at the entry or exits of alleys, as this blocks trash collectors, hinders sorting, and creates spillage. It is also unfair to corner building owners.
Everyone: For garbage, use at least 2-ply or 0.9 mL thick bags, as the City requires. Contractor bags are ideal for curbside trash to prevent leakage and rodent access. For recycles, please crush boxes and place all other recyclables in a clear or transparent blue plastic bag for optimal visibility.
Place garbage and recyclables outside directly behind your residence after 5 pm the day before trash pickup (later in eve is best to reduce exposure time for rodents) or by 6 am the day of trash pickup. Note: City guidelines prohibit kitchen bags, grocery bags, or cardboard boxes as trash bags. Be careful not to block cars in the Public Alley.
